Rock drill: used for drilling holes with diameter of 20 ~ 100 mm and depth of less than 20 meters in rocks above medium hardness. According to its different power can be divided into pneumatic, internal combustion, hydraulic and electric rock drill, which is widely used.

Open air drilling machine: according to the different working mechanism of crushing ore and rock, it is divided into steel rope impact drilling machine, subsurface drilling machine, cone drilling machine and rotary drilling machine. Due to low efficiency, the steel rope impact drill has been gradually replaced by other drills. The drill pipe drives the pneumatic hammer to rotate with the drill bit, and the piston of the pneumatic hammer is used to shock the drill bit to break the rock. It is usually used in small and medium-sized mines to drill the gun hole with a diameter of 80 ~ 250mm.

Roller drill: roller drill is used to crush ore-rock with rolling action of roller drill, suitable for drilling hole with diameter of 150 ~ 440mm in hard ore-rock, it has the advantages of stable efficiency and small labor intensity, and is widely used in large and medium-sized open metal mine. A submersible hole (or cone) drill is composed of an impactor (or bit), a rotary mechanism, a lifting mechanism, a pressurizing device, a walking mechanism, a slagging system, a drill frame and a drill pipe.

Rotary drill: only suitable for drilling soft rock and coal.

Downhole drill: when drilling downhole gun hole with hole diameter less than 150mm, the drill can also be used 80 ~ 150mm small diameter drill. When drilling a gun hole with a diameter of less than 70 mm in coal or soft ore rock, an electric drill or an air drill is usually used. The drill pipe is driven by an electric motor (or an air motor) and the rock (coal) cuttings are discharged through the spiral groove on the drill pipe.
